Habilitation Aide

Position Description: Assist with the promotion of client growth by providing developmental skills training in the following areas: sensorimotor development, communication development, social development, independent living development, affective development and behavior development utilizing a multi-disciplinary team based approach.

 

Qualifications:

·         High School Diploma/GED

·         One year of work experience in a program serving persons with developmental disabilities

·         Demonstrated competency in all areas identified on the TA Competency Form

·         Able to meet required competency level in Microsoft Office Software.

·         Valid Driver’s License.

·         Acceptable driving status, as determined by KDC insurance company

 

Physical Requirements:

·         Frequent movement within classroom including but not limited to: kneeling, bending, sitting, lifting, and positioning of students.

·         Operation of adaptive and specialized equipment.

·         Ability to use computer.

·         Ability to lift 50 pounds alone, 51+ with the assistance of another person or adaptive equipment

·         Ability to kneel, bend, and carry items

·         Ability to physically assist individuals as determined by their needs

·         Ability to tolerate significant amounts of walking, standing, and sitting

·         Ability to see, speak and hear

·         Ability to complete and implement any physical training requirements determined by

     KDC

 

 

Responsibilities:

·         Implement individual and group developmental activities as assigned and supervised by program director / lead aide.

·         Collect and record data relating to daily activities.

·         Participate in staff, team meetings, group and individual supervision.

·         Assist in documentation of client progress through communication of observations to supervisors.

·         Implement behavior management programs, collect and record relevant data.

·         Provide direct service support as assigned in response to the needs of the clients.

·         Assist with am and pm client transportation transfer.

·         Assist in maintenance and upkeep of classroom.

·         Perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned.

·         Identify local community resources and ensure individual(s) access to needed local resources on a consistent basis.

·         Promote teamwork and open communication among staff members and individuals supported by the program.

·         Appropriately implementing teaching strategies for ISP goals and behavior plans.

·         Encourage and support individuals in making independent choices to the greatest extent possible.

·         Ability to communicate thoughts clearly in spoken and written English

·         Ability to express caring and compassion, respect for others

·         Ability to advise, influence and supervise individuals in a responsible, fair

      and consistent manner

·         Ability to analyze situations and use good judgment

·         Demonstrate the ability to set aside personal prejudices and fears to support individual(s) in taking risks and making informed decisions

·         Maintain agency standards of confidentiality

·         Complete required documentation in timely and professional manner

·         Identify local community resources and ensure individual(s) access to needed local resources on a consistent basis

·         Maintain a respectful manner and tone of voice with others

·         Promote teamwork and open communication among staff members and individuals supported by the program

·         Appropriately implement teaching strategies for ISP goals and behavior plans

·         Encourage and support individuals in making independent choices to the greatest extent possible

·         Complete required trainings and maintain certifications
