Meet Shady. Shady came to KDC’s Foster Care Program in 2014 from Egypt, without parents, knocking on neighbor’s doors for food, clothing and a place to stay. Eventually cops were called for concern and Shady ended up in KDC’s Foster Care Program. He was just 17-years-old at the time. But today, Shady is 20 and lives with his foster mom, Tammy, and his foster brother, Matthew. Shady loves card games, sports and anything that involves running and he was at the top of his division in high school. He plans to attend Bristol Community College in the fall, and is unsure of what he would like to study. His foster mom describes him as a soft spoken young man, who is just a good, good kid with a heart of gold. When we asked Shady his biggest accomplishment thus far, he talked about how he didn’t know the English language when he came to America in 2014. Determined to learn it, he purchased books, watched videos and taught himself how to speak fluent English. “I’ve only been here for 3 years but I did what most would do in 20 years. KDC has changed my life,” said Shady.
