Building skills and relationships
Adults with developmental disabilities spend their days with KDC forming friendships and building life skills.
KDC’s Day Habilitation supports independent living and community connections. We offer a safe daytime program for adults with developmental disabilities, including those with complex medical needs. Activities are flexible, so each adult can pursue their own interests, while continuing to develop their own skills and personal goals.
Services We Offer
KDC works with each adult to promote their independence through a wide range of by-choice activities.
Services consist of
- Social skills development and coaching
- Community integration with adult peers
- Nursing services for complex medical needs
- Physical, Occupational, Speech screenings and assessments
- Support for families and care providers who assist participants in their independent living and/or home care
Day Hab can help
- Communication skills development
- Functional skill development
- Behavior management
- Volunteer opportunities
- Well-being and self-help
Participants benefit from a 1:4 staff-to-participant ratio, one of the lowest in Massachusetts, and from KDC’s professional interdisciplinary team. Each classroom of 10 is led by a developmental specialist and experienced aides.
These Day Habilitation professionals continue their learning through multiple courses each year, including Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports, Safety-Care, a skills training focused on de-escalation techniques and behavior management, and recertification in safety essentials like CPR and First Aid.
Who We Support
Day Habilitation is open to adults ages 22 and older, including those with complex medical needs. It can be an ideal transition for young adults who are leaving school and are not seeking employment.
