Impact Report 2025

Message from the CEO & Board Chair

Dear Friends and Partners,

KDC’s Impact Report offers us the chance to reflect and share what we have accomplished together. This past year has been one of growth and innovation as we worked to deliver on our mission of supporting individuals and families across our communities.

We are proud to highlight several accomplishments from the past year, many of which you will find throughout this report. KDC expanded access to early intervention for children, strengthened Family Services and Foster Care programs providing stability and hope, and created new opportunities for inclusion and independence for individuals with developmental disabilities. Together, these efforts demonstrate our ongoing commitment to helping people of all ages realize their full potential.

This progress would not have been possible without the dedication of our team members, the trust of the families we serve, and the generosity of our partners, donors, and volunteers.

As we look ahead, we are guided by a two-year strategic plan designed to ensure we remain strong, responsive, and ready for the future. Our focus will include:

  • Enhancing the team member experience to recruit, retain, and support the talented staff who make our work possible.
  • Investing in infrastructure and systems that improve efficiency and strengthen operations.
  • Advocating at the state and federal levels to protect and expand essential services.
  • Ensuring financial stability so we can sustain our mission long into the future.
  • Advancing operational excellence to deliver the highest quality services for those who count on us.

We are proud of how far we have come, and with your continued partnership, we are confident that the next two years will bring even greater impact.

Respite Services – A Meaningful Connection

One individual supported by KDC lives alone and manages a range of personal and social needs. He has difficulty forming friendships in the community, and although he is enrolled in KDC’s Individual Supports program, it currently offers a limited amount of interaction time. As a result, much of his time is spent alone. Introducing an adult companion through KDC’s Respite Services has given him the chance to participate more fully in daily life and engage in activities that genuinely interest him. He has enjoyed fishing, going to the movies, attending ballgames in Boston and Worcester, seeing local theater productions, and going out for meals, along with many other outings. This support not only helps him take part in the activities he chooses, but also provides a steady, trusted presence in his life. The companionship offers encouragement, reduces isolation, and promotes a greater sense of independence and well-being.

KDC team members also help families identify natural supports within the community to promote stability and keep the family intact.

(LIFT) Lives in Forward Transition is a program for youth who have been involved with DCF for an extended period. The program provides essential support as young adults transition from foster care into their own living space.

Gabby’s Journey of Growth and Resilience

Gabby’s story embodies the life-changing impact of KDC’s continuum of care, from Foster Care to LIFT and now Independent Living. Entering foster care through a Child Requiring Assistance petition, Gabby sought safety from an abusive home environment and began her path toward stability and independence. After an initial foster placement, Gabby joined KDC’s LIFT program, where she found a nurturing home and a foster mother who became a lasting source of guidance and encouragement. With the support\ of LIFT, Gabby focused on her education, prepared for motherhood, and built the confidence to take the next step toward self-sufficiency.

Today, Gabby is thriving in KDC’s Independent Living Program in New Bedford. She continues to stay connected with her LIFT foster mom, who remains an important part of her support system, planning a baby shower and cheering her on as she builds a bright future for herself and her child.

Gabby’s journey is a powerful reminder of what is possible when young people are surrounded by care, stability, and belief in their potential. Through each stage of her time with KDC, she has shown remarkable resilience, determination, and hope, turning hardship into opportunity and forging her own path forward.
