FAMILY SUPPORT CENTERS OVERVIEW
Kennedy-Donovan Center Family Support Centers enable families to stay together and ensure that people with disabilities are welcome and contributing members of their communities. The Centers are designed to assist children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families to attain their highest levels of independence through advocacy, respite, education support and other flexible services.
KDC Family Support Centers recognize that families are in the best position to know what assistance they need for their family members and how to best achieve their goals. Family support services are flexible and able to adapt as family needs, roles and ages change.
Anyone in the community who needs help locating and accessing community resources can benefit from information and referral services offered by the Family Support Centers. Examples include- Applying to DDS, Financial resources, Locating social services programs, Referrals to elder services, Locating food and clothing, Parenting/sibling support, Applying for housing, Applying for MassHealth, Personal Care Attendant referrals, Applying for fuel assistance, Parent networking and Administration Flexible funding. Services are available both short term or ongoing basis.
Family support groups and trainings are available on a bimonthly basis to family members, professionals and individuals. Some support groups provide childcare to make it easier for parents to attend.
Respite Services provide short-term support and care of children and adults with disabilities either in the individual’s home, in the home of the care provider, or in the community. Families may use respite for a few hours or for an extended period.
Services are funded through contract with the MA DDS.
